4. Tan Ky Ancient House
First in Hoi An tourist attractions list is Tan Ky Ancient House. Built in the late 18th century, this is one of the oldest houses in Hoi An. It is nearly 200 years old. The old house still retains its unique architectural style. This was the home of the Le family for seven generations. The house is built mainly with pillars and roofs which made of wood, while the foundation of the house is paved with high-grade pottery. 5. Trieu Chau Assembly Hall
Trieu Chau Assembly Hall is one of the Hoi An tourist sites that is always mentioned in the list of Hoi An tourist attractions. It is considered one of the oldest architectural assembly hall in the city. Owing to its unique architecture, the Trieu Chau assembly hall impresses visitors with its fine lines and sharp motifs on solid woodwork. Besides, the art of embellishing of terracotta and porcelain patterns is also used to build this work to enhance the beauty and create the art of the assembly hall.
The house’s owners hope this God will always bring luck to them and help them travel smoothly on the sea. Formerly, people often went to the house at night to pray because they thought that all their wishes would come true. The most outstanding features of the house are a sophisticatedly carved wooden frame, decorative designs, beautiful wooden patterns and embossed patterns made of porcelain pieces. The main hall is dedicated to General Phuc Ba (Bon Dau Quan), a god of mastering waters. The two sides of Phuc Ba’s altar are refined for worshipping the Gods of Wealth and Luck. The east-wing house is dedicated to former sages, chiefs and deputy-chiefs of the house. Every year, descendants of the Trieu Chau people gather at the house f-rom the 1st to the 16th of the first lunar month to worship their ancestors.
6. Phung Hung ancient house
Address: No. 4, Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Street, Hoi An City, Quang Nam
Phung Hung ancient house is more than 100 years old, built from the XIX century. The owner of the house was a famous and wealthy businessman, with the desire to flourish prosperous business so he took the name “Phung Hung”. With special requirements, the loft is made of many high-grade wooden slats, surrounded by wide corridors that reflect the typical Asian style of the house. The architecture of three cultures: Japanese – Chinese – Vietnamese.
Today, the ground floor is the family’s living room, furnished with some wooden old-style cupboards containing many precious objects and belongings. The house has 80 columns made of precious wood. Each column stands on a lotus-shaped base in order to minimize subsidence and moisture for the house and to prevent termites from damaging it. There are square pillars on the veranda, and the roof is made of pan-tiles. A wide corridor made of wood surrounds the second storey. It is now reserved for the worship of the family’s ancestors and of Thien Hau Holy Mother.
7. Quang Dong Assembly Hall
Quang Chau assembly hall was built in 1885. The convention hall is quite harmonious by the combination of stone materials and wood in the structure. In Quang Chau assembly hall, there is a large lake, embellished in the shape of a dragon winding flexible. The place is still preserved many ceramic artifacts, simulated images, sketches of cultural plays and documents record the ordinary life of the Cantonese community in Hoi An.
8. Tran Family House
Tran Family House in Hoi An is one of the famous Hoi An tourist attractions with its ancient features and unique architecture of the church. It is located at No. 21 Le Loi, Hoi An City, Tran Church and considered one of the oldest houses with hundreds of years old.
Observation from the outside, the Tran Family House was built by wooden architecture. 10. Cau Pagoda
Located in the heart of Hoi An ancient town and located across the romantic Hoai River, Hoi An Bridge is a place you can not ignore when traveling to Hoi An. Cau Pagoda has a unique roof style is made of wood with decorative architectural style originating from “land of cherry blossoms” should also known as “Japanese Bridge”. With such characteristics, the Bridge Pagoda has become an inseparable symbol when referring to Hoi An.
The pagoda is under the floor in wood crosses a channel of Hoài river. The bridge is covered with a curved roof and thoroughly carved. On the guardrail, a small temple is devoted to god of the storms and typhoons according to the Chinese belief. The statues of sitting monkeys and dogs in wood are laid out at the two bridge’s ends.
The origin of Cau pagoda was attached to the legend of a watery monster whose head was in India, the body in Vietnam and the tail in Japan. Each time it agitated, there were floods and earthquakes in these areas.
